Ingenuity launches enterprise collaboration application for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies

Creates Online Collaboration 'Spaces' for Scientists to More Effectively Exchange Ideas Internally and With External Collaboration Partners

Drug Discovery Technology Conference, BOSTON, MA, Aug. 9, 2004 -- Ingenuity announced today the Ingenuity Enterprise Collaboration application that extends new enterprise-wide features to Ingenuity Pathways Analysis users. Currently in development, Ingenuity is now accepting applications for its upcoming beta program. The software will be licensed separately from Ingenuity Pathways Analysis to enterprise customers, and is expected to be commercially available in Q4 of this year. Pricing has not been announced.

Ingenuity also announced today a new Ingenuity Workgroup Collaboration application for government and non-profit institutions; a new summer '04 release of Ingenuity Pathways Analysis; an ROI Analysis Report from IDC Life Science Insights on large scale deployment of pathways software in pharmaceutical companies; a new, multi-year agreement with Millennium Pharmaceuticals; and the launch of Ingenuity University with initial class offerings that teach best practices and use of pathways analysis in drug R&D.

"Drug discovery companies are struggling with two key challenges; providing their scientists with more effective tools and technology to support cross-company collaboration, and transparently capturing and immortalizing proprietary science insights," stated Rich Chen, Vice President of Product Strategy at Ingenuity. "Both interpersonal dynamics and organizational boundaries hinder the exchange of ideas and drain resources from duplicative and uncoordinated efforts within a company. Also, capturing individual scientists' insights and then effortlessly making this knowledge useful to the entire company means building a new, invaluable company asset of proprietary science know-how. The Ingenuity Enterprise Collaboration software addresses these two challenges, and holds huge promise for very large productivity gains in drug companies."

Over the past year, Ingenuity has been working with its Ingenuity Pathways Analysis customers, exploring how dozens of companies are bottlenecked in sharing information, even within small workgroups. In cross-company collaborations and large geographically distributed research teams, information sharing and research coordination dynamics are often cited as primary drivers in the overall success or failure of research projects.

Ingenuity's novel approach to improving scientific collaboration is to integrate this capability directly within the scientists' workflow while analyzing experimental results, in contrast to other approaches typified by technologies such as shared electronic whiteboards that are not tightly integrated within the experimental results analysis workflow.

Key features of the Ingenuity Enterprise Collaboration application are:

-- Shared Spaces

-- Allows a scientist to create a shared space, and identify and invite collaborators to participate in the analysis of experimental results placed within these "spaces." Each collaborator has full-featured analysis capabilities.

-- Annotation

-- Enables scientists to add their own insights and interpretations to a colleague's shared analysis and instantly share these insights with each other. Different types of data (text, graphics) are supported as well as multiple categories of annotations such as notes and commentary and, importantly, new computable molecular interactions that reflect proprietary knowledge not found in the public domain. Now both public and proprietary biological insights are combined for better analysis.

-- Web-delivery

-- These new enterprise-wide capabilities seamlessly integrate with Ingenuity Pathways Analysis, a web-delivered application. This means that large, multi-national companies, and their external collaboration partners, can instantly enable broad collaboration for all Ingenuity Pathways Analysis users with no infrastructure changes or installation of new software.

Customers who are interested in participating in the upcoming beta program for this product should contact their sales representative or Ingenuity at 650-967-7777.
