MicroStrategy honors four companies for excellence in enterprise-class business intelligence

First American Corporation, Catalina Marketing Corporation, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, and Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC Recognized at MicroStrategy World 2007 User Conference

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 24 , 2007 -- MicroStrategy(R) Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence software, today honored four companies for achieving outstanding business performance with their MicroStrategy-based business intelligence applications. The "Best Practices in Business Intelligence" award winners for 2007 are First American Corporation, Catalina Marketing Corporation, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, and Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC. By deploying MicroStrategy for their business intelligence (BI) applications, these companies are sharing information across their enterprises to increase revenue, enhance efficiency and productivity, and strengthen customer relationships. The awards were announced at the company's annual user conference, MicroStrategy World 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The award categories and winners are:

Following is a brief description of this year's winners and their business intelligence applications:

First American Corporation: A MicroStrategy customer since 2002, First American Corporation is the winner in the Enterprise Deployment category. First American has deployed MicroStrategy across its enterprise to provide reporting and analytics that help employees integrate and better understand real estate transaction information collected from its business units and subsidiaries. MicroStrategy is utilized by employees to analyze operational effectiveness, and externally by clients, to help them optimize business processes.

The First American Enterprise Technology Group has established a BI Center of Excellence, and its enterprise data warehouse fuels a variety of applications, including business performance dashboards for First American executives, operational reporting for channel vendor management, and compliance reporting for partner lending institutions. First American's Loan Performance subsidiary uses MicroStrategy to analyze and report mortgage industry trends. MicroStrategy delivers historical mortgage data via a secured, Web-enabled user interface, allowing Loan Performance clients to customize reports and drill from high-level reporting to an individual loan. Finally, First American Real Estate Tax Services uses MicroStrategy to provide lending institutions clearer visibility into their mortgage portfolios and tax cycle trends. Catalina Marketing Corporation: Catalina Marketing Corporation is the winner in the Data Scalability category. A global leader in behavior-based marketing solutions, Catalina Marketing uses MicroStrategy to analyze over 28 terabytes of retail data used to support Catalina's targeted marketing programs. For the retail industry, Catalina collects about 350 million transactions per week from more than 28,000 stores worldwide. Analysis of these transactions provides insight into consumer purchasing habits, which helps to ensure that communications from Catalina's clients are appropriately targeted. Catalina's MicroStrategy projects have more than 350 users who utilize its Netezza Data Warehouse to generate between 300-500 complex analytical reports daily. With its comprehensive consumer insights, Catalina Marketing provides its clients with effective behavior-based marketing programs, uniquely targeted to their consumers.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company: Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is the winner in the User Scalability category. Approximately 20,000 users at Nationwide run an average of 87,000 MicroStrategy queries per month, with 95% of the queries completed in less than 5 minutes. MicroStrategy is used by employees across Nationwide, including personnel in Marketing, Underwriting, Pricing, Finance, Research & Development, Product Management, Claims, Special Investigations, Billing, and Internal Reporting. Nationwide has 28 MicroStrategy applications in production, primarily focused on four business areas: personal lines policy analysis, claims management, risk management appraisal, and agent productivity. The MicroStrategy-based reporting and analysis applications run against a 40 node Teradata data warehouse with 44 terabytes of production data. Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC: Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC is the winner in the Extranet Deployment category.
