MACTEC selects Business Objects for enterprise performance management; leading engineering design company replaces Cognos with Business Objects

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 10, 2004 -- Business Objects (Nasdaq:BOBJ)(Euronext Paris ISIN code: FR0004026250 - BOB), the world's leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that MACTEC, one of the largest environmental, engineering design and remedial construction companies in the U.S., will deploy solutions from Business Objects to manage enterprise performance. MACTEC replaced Cognos with Business Objects, citing the ease of deployment and ease of use of Business Objects as two critical factors in their decision to switch. Using Business Objects, MACTEC will provide top executives at more than 100 offices throughout the country with dashboards, enabling them to track, understand, and manage their organization's performance.

MACTEC's dashboards will provide in-depth views of performance from different perspectives and for different users. For example, a project income statement will compare month-to-date budget figures for different revenue categories and margins in order to help managers keep projects within budgetary guidelines. An earned value graph will present an interactive worksheet allowing project managers to enter a completion estimate for cost, revenue, or hours, and then graph the entire life of the project. This helps MACTEC keep the project moving forward in a timely manner. In addition, managers will be able to view pre-defined key performance indicators (KPIs) and the status of hundreds of ongoing projects.

The dashboards will pull data from various sources including Oracle Financials and a data warehouse running on Oracle 9i. Users will access the dashboards from web pages built with Microsoft's .NET technology, MACTEC's standard web development environment.

"As a client-centric company, it is vital we deploy a business intelligence solution that provides visibility into the progress of our projects," said Tim Miller, application development manager for MACTEC. "Business Objects provides this visibility and more. The ability to track, understand, and manage performance will increase, and also enable us to demonstrate the value we bring to clients."

"The need for business intelligence extends to every corner of geographically dispersed enterprises," said Chris Caren, vice president of corporate marketing at Business Objects. "Business Objects is enabling MACTEC to create the exact reporting environment it needs to improve performance at every level and at every location of the organization."
