McKesson Analytics expand into Health Information Management delivering the power to perform

Initiative Equips Leaders with Information for Fast, Proactive Decision-Making

ATLANTA, GA, October 03, 2007 -- McKesson, the world’s largest healthcare services, automation and information technology company, announces the launch of Horizon Patient Folder Analytics™, a powerful, easy-to-use, business intelligence tool that provides secure access to vital, up-to-date information for Health Information Management (HIM) departments to improve their performance. The first analytics tool designed specifically for the HIM professional, this solution integrates a variety of data sources to deliver timely information and insight into key performance indicators.

McKesson will formally unveil Horizon Patient Folder Analytics in booth #711 at the American Health Information Management Association’s 79th Convention and Exhibit October 6-11 in Philadelphia.

“Hospitals with sophisticated electronic records need analytics in order to effectively run their operations,” said Kelly McLendon, RHIA, president of consulting firm Information Evolution Management. “HIM departments especially need a management dashboard to efficiently manage their eHIM operations, and this simply hasn’t been available until now. All enterprises that use comprehensive, electronic document management systems should have decision support analytical tools such as Horizon Patient Folder Analytics to maintain optimum operating efficiency and stay current on the status of their workflows and systems.”

Based on McKesson’s highly successful Horizon Business Insight™ analytics solution, the new solution uses Web-based technology to provide secure access to performance metrics. Providing a single point of access for information throughout the organization, it incorporates data from the Horizon Patient Folder™ electronic document management system and other sources.

McKesson delivers a HIM Scorecard that presents key information in a dynamic graphical format to facilitate quick analysis, while also demonstrating how performance measurements are related. Managers can see chart delinquency and incompletion trends, detailed views of productivity, backlogs, missing documentation, incomplete coding and other impediments to managing the revenue cycle.

By detecting problems early, HIM departments can quickly address discrepancies between current conditions and desired operational goals. Coding can be presented not just in terms of number of items requiring completion, but for the first time, be linked directly to the financial impact of the cases.

“With this tool, HIM professionals can see volume, dollars, and where they are in the workflow process compared to established organizational goals,” said Bill Kloes, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Imaging Group, McKesson Provider Technologies. “Users can then drill into these highlights and see exactly what part of their operations requires attention and process streamlining.”
