Netezza launches developer network

Global Community of Visionaries Leverage Netezza’s Patented Streaming Architecture for Advanced Analytic Development
Netezza User Conference

BOSTON, September 26, 2007 -- Netezza Corporation (NYSE Arca: NZ), the global leader in analytic appliances, today announced the launch of the Netezza Developer Network (NDN), a program that enables developers to leverage Netezza’s high-performance, streaming analytic™ appliance platform to design and develop applications and algorithms for competitive advantage. The NDN provides members including customers, developers, systems integrators, complementary technology partners and the academic community widespread support for the creation of a new generation of ground-breaking, non-SQL analytics.

Founding members of the NDN include 10e Solutions, Carnegie Mellon University, Catalina Marketing, Decision Intelligence Incorporated, Epsilon, Ingrian, Intelligent Integration Systems, Inc. (IISi), Multi-Threaded, Inc., NetMap Analytics, Rate Integration, SAS, SPSS, Tier-3 and others. As members of the Netezza Developer Network, these innovators gain early access to cutting-edge technology and become part of a community committed to building business-changing analytics.

The performance, cost and simplicity advantage of Netezza’s appliances has enabled Netezza customers to push the boundaries of analytics, delivering analyses that were previously too slow, expensive or even impossible with traditional data warehouses. Netezza’s patented Intelligent Query Streaming™ architecture brings processing power right to the data, eliminating unnecessary data movement to deliver high performance. The Company is extending the capabilities of its appliance by bringing analytics to the data – embedding complex non-SQL algorithms used by analytics applications within the NPS appliance so they can be run “on stream,” as fast as the data streams off the disk.

“As an early customer of Netezza, we recognized the value of its appliance approach for standard SQL analyses and have leveraged the NPS system’s high performance, reducing query times from hours or days to seconds or minutes,” said Del Brown, technology director, Epsilon. “With the development opportunities the Netezza Developer Network offers, we can now run complex, non-standard functions within our NPS systems, extending the applicability of Netezza to a broader range of applications.”

“At Netezza, the power to question everything is paramount to our technology, our business and our success,” said Justin Lindsey, CTO at Netezza. “By creating the NDN, we have opened the door, and our appliance, to a growing community of visionaries focused on building ground-breaking analytic applications. Innovators are able to share knowledge and learn how Netezza’s streaming architecture can become the backbone for future application development to create more powerful ways to unlock the intelligence in their data.”

By providing an open environment and an enabling platform for algorithmic development, Netezza allows NDN members to leverage its unique streaming architecture to deliver a new generation of appliance-based analytics, including:

  • Multi-dimensional geospatial analytics on comprehensive data sets for risk management

  • Predictive model scoring for customer segmentation, enabling real-time offer provisioning for customers

  • Iterative modeling and analytics on billions of call detail records (CDRs) for telco price optimization

  • Real-time Monte Carlo simulations on terabytes of detail-level data for risk management

  • “Fingerprinting” with hashing algorithms for chain-of-custody document fingerprinting and to ensure that files transferred are intact

  • Fuzzy text search analysis uses algorithms that provide a “best guess” of most likely results

“For the past several years, Netezza has pioneered and evangelized the concept of data warehouse appliances, resulting in significant market adoption,” said Richard Winter, president of WinterCorp, an independent consulting firm specializing in large scale data management. “It’s now time for the appliance approach to ‘step up’ and address higher-level challenges in business analytics. I am delighted to see Netezza taking the lead, both by enabling a new approach to analytic algorithms – and by launching the Netezza Developer Network to promote widespread implementation. This opens the door to a new generation of analytic appliances that deliver specific business solutions – and that will take the appliance value proposition to the next level.”

“Like IISi, Netezza is an innovator, providing new ideas and opportunities for customers,” said Rich Zimmerman, president and CTO, IISi. “As a member of the Netezza Developer Network, we can now develop advanced algorithms that run inside the NPS system, leveraging Netezza’s unique parallel architecture for high performance. These complex algorithms would support any application that requires spatial awareness such as store location optimization, emergency or financial planning in response to disasters and transport fleet management.”

Participation in the NDN includes a development “toolbox,” containing four of Netezza’s innovative Snippet Processing Units, and a software development kit. To learn more about the Netezza Developer Network, or to become a member, please visit www.netezza.com/ndn.
