NEW ORLEANS, October 19, 2007 -- The first local police department in the nation to adopt next-generation text analytic software has strongly praised its effectiveness as a “vital power-tool” in increasing the quality and efficiency of its crime and intelligence analysis operations. The report was made in an address in New Orleans before the annual conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) by Matt White, Crime Analysis Research & Development Manager of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO). The IACP session focused upon JSO’s breakthroughs in “Continuous improvement: the answer to doing more with less.”

Jacksonville is one of the nation’s largest police jurisdictions, White noted, and JSO’s Division of Continuous Improvement (DCI) bridges the customary gap between technology and analysis functions. White said JSO is busy “transforming its entire culture of law enforcement,” becoming “lean and purpose-driven,” while abandoning “inefficient programs and processes depleting limited funding and staff resources.”

According to White, a key factor in the transformation has been the evaluation of criminal technologies and introduction of a text analytic software called uReveal™ (manufactured by IxReveal™) which “quickly made analysis ridiculously more efficient.” The uReveal software already is used by major federal intelligence organizations. JSO uses uReveal’s capacity to analyze both unstructured and structured data in monitoring reports from over one million phone calls annually, he noted. As a result, he added, “indicators, warnings, and issues can be shared more immediately with others.”
