from DSSResources.comPentaho first to bring Business Intelligence Suite to iPhoneOrlando, FL, July 9, 2008 -— Pentaho, the commercial open source alternative for business intelligence (BI), today announced the availability of a new Pentaho iPhone application which provides native iPhone web navigation of Pentaho BI content. The integration is available today, and was developed using the iUI project, currently hosted on Google Code. With 1.7 million unit sales in the first calendar quarter of 2008, and 2009 unit sales projected at 45 million by research and investment firm Piper Jaffray, the iPhone has achieved tremendous popularity in its first release, with adoption expected to increase even more rapidly with the release of iPhone 2.0 later this month. The iPhone provides a powerful, portable platform for personal and business use, and now, through Pentaho, provides an easy and intuitive way for business users to access and navigate business intelligence information, using the new iPhone BI extension from Pentaho. iPhone 2.0 is also expected to build on active consumer adoption with additional features for corporate and enterprise users like support for Microsoft Exchange and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). "The demand to provide BI where business users operate has changed significantly as mobile devices like Apple iPhone have simplified business computing dramatically," said Mark Smith, CEO & executive vice president of research at Ventana Research., "Unlike many BI providers who are not supporting the Apple iPhone today, Pentaho is making it easy to access business intelligence and support organizations of any size." Pentaho first delivered an interactive, Web 2.0-based BI user interface in 2006. This new capability builds on Pentaho's web-enabled architecture and also uses Web 2.0 technologies to create a scalable, interactive experience for BI consumers on the iPhone. Pentaho's iPhone application allows iPhone users to easily navigate through interactive reports and dashboards, as well as to integrate BI functionality with other iPhone features like voice-calling, e-mail, and text messaging. The BI extension for iPhone is the newest enhancement to Pentaho Open BI Suite 1.7, delivered earlier this year. Pentaho Open BI Suite 1.7 provides dramatic ease of use enhancements that make it quick and easy for users to create and share reports, as well as report design enhancements that deliver sophistication and designer productivity features that rival or surpass even the most mature proprietary BI offerings. In the interest of fostering maximum community adoption, extension, and enhancement, Pentaho has also delivered the new iPhone capabilities in an open source model. "We've delivered another 'first' in BI with Pentaho's BI extension for iPhone," said Richard Daley, CEO of Pentaho Corporation. "Getting the most out of our commercial open source model means continuously delivering compelling new capabilities on open source, and we look forward to continued innovations in partnership with our global community."
