Brookfield, WI, November 12, 2009 -- In conjunction with the announcement of the recipients of the 2009 Vision Awards for Business Impact, Mary Jo Nott, Executive Editor of the BeyeNETWORK, interviewed Malcolm Hopkins, VP of Corporate Services for St. Thomas Elgin Hospital (STEGH), about its award-winning submission in the performance management category.

In today’s financial climate, STEGH re-examined its strategies, decided on a new plan for cost savings and revenue enhancement and then created a performance management solution with key metrics and a corporate scorecard to measure results. As a result of the Actuate implementation, STEGH created more than 50 projects within 30 departments and instituted quality controls across the organization.

“This was a team effort that produced savings of $3.1 million and improved patient satisfaction as well as better workload management,” began Hopkins. “In health care, it’s not easy to pick metrics; but it is important to focus on a few key items that you want to track. You have to measure the things you ‘need’ to measure so you can ensure you are moving in the right direction.”
