To Do and Upcoming
For Class Session 5 -- Wednesday, December 6
- Quiz #3 Ch. 5, 6 and 7
- Read Ch. 8. Building Data and Document-driven DSS
- Read Ch. 9. Building Knowledge-driven DSS and Mining Data
- Reda Ch. 10 Building Model-driven DSS

- Finish Tutorial 7. "Developing an Excel Application". Print a hard copy of
the 401k Report Figure 7-45 (Print Area A1:K18) for "Your Name" with a
salary of $35,000 and print the formula sheet (with grid lines and
row/column labels). Review Decision Support Tutorial "Enhancing a
Spreadsheet DSS". Add a spinner in cell B11 for the Annual Return
value in cell B10. You'll need a seed cell and you'll probably want to
hide the seed cell value. Make sure that cell protection is turned on,
then save your application so that I can see that data validation is
operating, the spinner works, and cell protection is enabled. Make
sure the buttons and spinner print. You'll need to show me the
application works. (10 points)
For Class Session 6 -- Saturday, December 9
- Tutorial 9. Data Tables and Scenario Management. On page 9.25 print
the sheets in the workbook and appropriate formulas (with gridlines,
row & column headings). Print the completed scenario summary report
(Fig. 9-36) on page 9.36. Add a new "Low Cost 2" scenario (with units
sold: 1500, price per unit=$160; material cost=44; advertising=5000;
and administrative=$4000) to the Scenario Report workbook you
completed in Tutorial 9. Print the new Profit Chart, and print the
worksheet with one and two-variable data tables for the Low Cost 2
scenario. (10 points)
- Start Tutorial 10. Using Solver for Complex Problems (10 points)

Cases: SunTrust, WEBSDSS and Liberty Brass
- Complete and submit Tutorial 10. Using Solver for Complex Problems. Complete the tutorial
and review assignments. In the tutorial print the formula sheet for
Figure 10-6 when cell B11=17 (show grid lines and row and column
headings). In the directory data/tutorial10/Review use the Dryers.xls
workbook for the review assignments. On pages 10.30-1 print the
documentation sheet for Dryer Order, the Orders worksheet (like Figure
10-25 with Dryers added in column E) and Solver answer report, and the
formulas for the worksheet (show grid lines and row and column
headings). The total profit for all appliances including dryers should
equal $20,580. (10 points)
