Teradata® Warehouse selected for advanced data management program at Ohio's Wright Center of Innovation

In addition, Teradata Supply Chain Intelligence solution will support new business school programs, training and research

DAYTON, Ohio, 9/29/2005 -– The Wright Center of Innovation for Advanced Data Management and Analysis (WCI ADMA) has selected Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), to provide a Teradata® warehouse as a strategic platform to support research and development projects in Ohio in complex data management by the center's 23 academic, government and industry partners.

WCI ADMA, based at Wright State University, is committed to creating new high wage, high-tech jobs in Ohio through business growth driven by commercializing leading-edge research in advanced data management and analysis. Specifically, WCI ADMA focuses on technologies linked to improving the acquisition, management, analysis and delivery of large volumes of complex data. This will result in the enhancement of knowledge management and discovery, quality and security, and the representation of data through visualization and fusion using simulation, modeling and other techniques.

NCR is a founding member of the WCI ADMA program along with other prominent Ohio technology companies such as LexisNexis, Reynolds & Reynolds, Standard Register and Cincom Systems. Wright State University is WCI ADMA's lead institution with cost-share commitments from four other universities (Kent State University, Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, and University of Dayton) and the Air Force Research Lab at Wright Patterson Air Force Base is collaborating through the Wright Brothers Institute.

The Teradata warehouse solution for WCI ADMA being installed at Wright State University is a two-node 5400E with a storage capacity of 1.6 terabytes running on the latest releases of Teradata database, utilities and tools, including Teradata Warehouse Miner.

"We needed a robust, scalable environment to support the growth of data centric applications aligned with our long-range goals, and Teradata was chosen because it is a powerful, scalable system that can grow as WCI ADMA grows," said Ken Berta, WCI ADMA chief marketing officer.

In addition to the data warehouse solution package, Teradata will contribute and implement its supply chain intelligence software to support the development of the new master's in logistics program at the Raj Soin School of Business at Wright State University. This will enable students to gain first-hand experience in the emerging Data Intensive Supply Chain© that will enhance the performance of Ohio's manufacturing logistics businesses.

"This was a unique contract because NCR is a founding member of WCI ADMA," said Greg Stipp, Teradata Solutions vice president. "WCI ADMA also affords us the opportunity to participate in advanced research projects with Wright State University – projects that have significant long-range potential to develop a Supply Chain Center with WCI ADMA and Wright State University."

The Teradata Warehouse provides parallel database technology including a suite of data access and management utilities that can be augmented with a broad portfolio of Teradata analytical tools and consulting services to deliver detailed business insight and enhance the value of a business's information environment.
