University of Alberta increases timely access to information with Stellent Universal Content Management

Leading Canadian public university leverages Stellent technology to manage policies and procedures, and more than 32,000 building drawings and related infrastructure records

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, July 19, 2004 ‹ Stellent, Inc. (Nasdaq: STEL), a global provider of content management solutions, announced today that the University of Alberta, one of Canadašs leading public universities serving more than 34,000 students, is employing StellentŽ Universal Content Management to manage its policies, procedures and infrastructure records on the Web resulting in increased and timely access to information for students, staff, partners and contractors.

"The Stellent system has completely transformed the way we make data and information available to the university community," said Akiyah Clements, Express Applications project leader for the University of Alberta. "Stellent Universal Content Managementšs out-of-the-box functionality and ease-of-use has enabled us to become more organized across our administration and infrastructure departments."

Specifically, the Stellent solution provides the university with a platform for creating, managing and updating policies and procedures on the University of Alberta Policy and Procedures On-line (UA PPOL) Internet site. And, although the university is still in the process of migrating previous hard-copy documents to electronic format, it already has experienced many benefits from its Stellent implementation. For example, instead of going to multiple Web sites or contacting multiple departments for a policy or procedure, an individual can access all of this content whether it relates to university financials and governance or human resources and research from any location with a Web connection.

Due to the success of the initial UA PPOL rollout, the university has utilized Stellent technology in its planning and infrastructure department, creating the University Infrastructure Records Access Program (UIRAP). Now, it is no longer necessary for university personnel and off-site contractors to try to locate more than 32,000 hard-copy building drawings around campus. With the Stellent system, they can simply access the secure UIRAP Web site to obtain all infrastructure documents, including building mechanical and electrical specifications.

"The functionality of the Stellent-powered UIRAP site has greatly reduced the number of planning meetings and trips to the university required by off-site personnel, saving both time and money for all parties involved," Clements added. "Our investment in the Stellent system continues to pay dividends, and we look forward to utilizing it for additional university initiatives in the future."

"Like businesses around the world, higher education institutions are faced with the challenge of managing an overwhelming amount of content," said Robert Olson, president and chief executive officer for Stellent. "It is critical for these organizations to gain control of this content in order to efficiently serve students, staff and vendors something the University of Alberta is well on its way to achieving using Stellent Universal Content Management."
