HUNTSVILLE, Ala., June 16, 2004 -- Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today announced it has been selected by the Geomatik + Vermessung Stadt Zurich (GeoZ) to provide land information management (LIM) solutions that manage the cadastral and mapping data of the City of Zurich's 90 square kilometer area. Zurich is the largest town in Switzerland and has a population of approximately half a million citizens. GeoZ is the local authority responsible for the City's cadastral and construction surveying, GIS and mapping.

After evaluating products from three leading GIS vendors, GeoZ chose Intergraph's GeosPro, a GeoMedia(R)-based solution that is tailored specifically for land record management in German-speaking countries. Impressed by the level of functionality and quality that Intergraph solutions offer, GeoZ Director, Andreas Oprecht, noted, "Intergraph solutions meet all the requirements set forth by the government for handling Swiss cadastral survey data. Furthermore, we have first-hand experience of the reliability and ease of use delivered with Intergraph solutions because of our long-standing relationship."

GeoMedia technology's rigid consistency checking ensures the integrity of geospatial data so the City expects to reduce data handling and maintenance costs. Also, GeoMedia's open database technology will make geospatial data easily accessible from CAD and GIS applications used by other departments, and it will provide intranet access for additional data sharing requirements.

While the GeoZ staff uses the new technology to streamline daily workflows for maintenance and updates, the City's civil engineering and planning staffs will access the data for land analysis and infrastructure planning. For example, upon completion of a new building in the City, the structure and its surrounding site are surveyed. Area measurements are imported and the points computed by the system. The building is constructed geometrically and the environment adapted as necessary. After verification, an updated map is published the next day on the City's intranet-based cadastral information system, which is built on GeoMedia WebMap.
