National Australia Bank wins International Financial Services Company of the Year award

Teradata Solution Underpins NAB's CRM Success

SYDNEY, Australia, March 9, 2006 - National Australia Bank (NAB) has been named the Direct Marketing Association Financial Services Council's "Financial Services Company of the Year." The honor came at the council's annual awards ceremony, held recently in Palm Harbor, Fla. It is the first time a company outside the United States has won the award. NAB outdid the international competition to win the award for its National Leads customer relationship management (CRM) system, which it developed in conjunction with Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR).

National Leads is used to filter and track the bank's 2.7 million daily transactions to identify opportunities to service its customers better. The system is particularly useful in ensuring that proactive product offers are relevant to customers' specific situation and needs at that time.

In the past two years, more than three million opportunities have been identified by the system leading to almost 500,000 positive customer conversations across most customer segments.

"Although National Leads has been around for several years, it is now more critical to our strategy than ever. As our competitors are building their own CRM systems, we are using our vast experience in analytical CRM to step up our efforts to become a more customer-centric organization," said Gerd Schenkel, general manager, customer strategy and cross-marketing, NAB.

"Despite our success, we see further opportunity for developing the system to support our repositioning in the market via additional sales force initiatives," he said.

The NAB has recently announced a stronger emphasis on local markets with the branch and area managers becoming critical decision-makers.

The Teradata Warehouse runs a historical transaction profile for each customer and applies more than 600 different criteria to identify sales and service opportunities.

Julian Beavis, Teradata's vice president for Australia and New Zealand, said, "The NAB system is a flagship international example of how forward-thinking businesses can employ analytics and clever CRM to deliver a competitive edge. This award acknowledges how CRM has come of age."

The DMA Financial Services Council's Company of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding company in the industry. The award is open to any insurance or financial services company, regardless of distribution channel employed, that uses the direct marketing concept as a strategic tool, focusing on business-to-business or consumer markets.
