By embedding Oracle(R) Database 10g, Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database, Oracle Berkeley DB and Oracle Database Lite 10g within their products, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can deliver more complete, turnkey solutions with lower total cost of ownership for users.

Oracle continues to innovate and integrate these embeddable databases so that they work well together, as well as independently, providing customers with unique and additional functionality. For example, Oracle TimesTen can serve as a cache for Oracle Database to greatly improve response time and throughput, and Oracle Database Lite can synchronize with Oracle Database to enable offline use in mobile devices. Also, Oracle databases are embedded within several components of Oracle Fusion Middleware as well as Oracle applications, so customers can benefit from Oracle's comprehensive and integrated product lines.

The market for embedded database software is experiencing significant growth stemming from a diverse range of uses including consumer and mobile devices, desktop and enterprise applications, large-scale networking and storage gear and appliances. To be successful in this space requires a broad and flexible product line. Oracle offers the industry's broadest portfolio of world-class embeddable database products, extending its leadership in the data center for transaction processing and data warehousing.

Oracle's portfolio includes functionality that ranges from Oracle Database 10g for advanced relational database features in an embeddable package, Oracle TimesTen for real-time, in-memory relational data management and caching, Oracle Berkeley DB for high performance, embedded data management, and Oracle Database Lite for online/offline mobile data management. All of these products require no human administration, making them ideal for industries such as communications, high technology and aerospace/defense, which have demanding requirements for intelligent edge devices and services.
