The selection is part of Virginia Tech’s program to improve communications on all levels throughout the university. The agreement also opens the door for other member institutions of the Virginia Association of State Colleges and University Purchasing Professionals (VASCUPP) to adopt Rhythmyx WCM solutions. “Percussion’s Rhythmyx WCM solution provides ease of use and the ability to quickly deliver information via multiple channels, including the Web, RSS feeds, podcasts and XML data streams,” said Greg Kroll, Associate Director of IT Planning at Virginia Tech. “Rhythmyx also offers the power to service our extensive environment. It gives our various departments and schools the autonomy to control their own content, and easily reuse that content in a variety of formats, while maintaining consistent branding for the university. This is one on the smoothest implementations I've been involved with in some time, thanks to Percussion's professional attitude and eagerness to get things done, coupled with the widespread and active involvement of our implementation team.” Virginia Tech’s Rhythmyx-based update of its large-scale Web presence will begin with the main www.vt.edu Web site and be deployed over time across hundreds of sub-domains using Rhythmyx’s intuitive site cloning capabilities. The www.vt.edu domain currently has more than 650 active sub-domains, with more than 1.1 million web pages. It averages more than 60,000 unique visits, 350,000 page views, and 3.5 million hits per day. Eventually hundreds of end user contributors will use Rhythmyx, with skill levels ranging from highly skilled programmers to those with only a basic understanding of the Web. “Virginia Tech is deploying state-of-the-art content management for its complex, multi-channel university communications environment. Because of its support for enterprise-strength Web Content Management, constantly-changing, dynamic content and multi-channel/multi-site capabilities, Rhythmyx was ideally suited for the university’s Web site redesign efforts,” said Percussion CEO Barry Reynolds. “With Rhythmyx, Virginia Tech can more effectively and efficiently deliver timely, updated content to students, staff and faculty, who can receive it in the ways they prefer, whenever they need it.” Rhythmyx will satisfy a wide range of IT requirements, including scalability and reliability at the enterprise-level; operation in the university’s decentralized environment, which utilizes a wide variety of server platforms, Web site configurations, portals and scripting languages; and support for a recent comprehensive redesign, which included a new graphic look-and-feel, a set of shared Web page templates and cascading style sheets (CSS).
