(Nasdaq: TIBX) today launched a new academic initiative aimed at delivering a wide range of technology education benefits to colleges and universities around the world. The goal of the program is to help ensure the proficiency of students in relevant, emerging technologies and to generate high-value job skills that are in demand by organizations today. TIBCO's academic initiative seeks to encourage educational institutions, from large universities to institutes of technology, to incorporate its technology into their curricula and research. The program is also a key component of the company's strategy to advance the adoption of platform-independent and open-source software that affords businesses "the power to choose" the best-suited software to address their individual, dynamic requirements. Dr. Galit Shmueli, associate professor of Statistics for Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland commented: "For the last two years I've been using TIBCO Spotfire with amazing success to teach a data analytic MBA course at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. My interactions with the TIBCO Spotfire team have been highly collaborative and they have been very responsive to our requests. This has been an absolute win-win relationship, which I value and very much look forward to maintaining." The academic initiative is open to all educational institutions, but is specifically designed for faculties teaching Masters of Business Administration, Information Systems and Computer Science. To get started, TIBCO will provide program members with quick and easy access to software, training, course materials and supporting services. Participants will also be entitled to TIBCO's on-line forums and informational resource centers. TIBCO executive vice president, Worldwide Marketing, Ram Menon, said: "We are excited about this opportunity to deepen our relationships with academia and help educate and train the next generation of thought leaders. Students equipped with the new multi-disciplinary skill set afforded by the program are already experiencing an increased competitive advantage upon completion of their masters and doctoral degrees. Our confidence in these graduates is evidenced by our employment of many of these students with internships and full-time careers." TIBCO's collaboration with academic institutions continues to grow. Leading institutions recently added to the program include the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland; Babson College, Massachusetts; the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University, Maryland; the International Institute of Information Technology, Pune, India; the University of Applied Sciences at Regensburg, Germany; and the University of Hamburg, Germany.v For more details about the academic initiative including how to apply for membership, please visit: http://www.tibco.com/company/university_relations About TIBCO TIBCO Software Inc.
