from DSSResources.comCanadian retailer Giant Tiger selects Teradata for business intelligenceMIAMISBURG, Ohio, June 10, 2008 -— Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the global leader in enterprise data warehousing, announced today that Giant Tiger, a family-owned retailer with 184 locations in Canada, has selected Teradata to provide an enterprise data warehouse (EDW) to assist Giant Tiger in executing their business intelligence strategy. Giant Tiger also purchased a Retail Logical Data Model (RLDM), which serves as a blueprint for building an enterprise data structure. The LDM provides common business definitions for all entities, resulting in a single, integrated view across the organization. It also documents business rules, supports consistent reporting and analytical results and helps eliminate data redundancy. "We have been chasing important answers to complex analytical queries, which required responses beyond our current capabilities," said Mike Lewis, executive vice president and chief information officer, Giant Tiger. "Teradata understands the retail business very well. They have an incredible depth of experience working with retailers around the world. They also have a very strong reputation for delivering performance across many different workloads. We chose them over competing data warehouse engines and appliances, large and small. In my opinion, Teradata offered the best value proposition with the lowest risk and best price performance. We are pleased to partner with Teradata as we embark on our enterprise data warehouse journey." Giant Tiger is now beginning the process of migrating and consolidating data into a centralized Teradata enterprise data warehouse. The integration of data from multiple sources and business units will enhance data visibility for deep analysis and insights that support management in making better, faster decisions. The new platform will be in full production by October, 2008. "Retailers like Giant Tiger are in a very competitive category," said Rick Makos, president, Teradata Canada. "They require timely access to detail data and powerful analytics. Teradata's platform will serve as the foundational technology for enabling the speed and accuracy of business intelligence required for a competitive advantage." The retailer selected Teradata after an extensive analysis of the vendors in the marketplace. "Giant Tiger spoke to many Teradata clients to confirm Teradata's experience and presence in both the retail and data warehouse marketplace," said John Tulley, vice president, retail solutions, Teradata Canada. "Direct conversations with users of Teradata were compelling and became pivotal in Giant Tiger's decision." Giant Tiger plans to implement their EDW in phases, beginning with sales and inventory reporting — evolving to an enterprise-class platform, bringing all business data into one centralized, integrated system.
