The Gartner Business Intelligence Excellence Award recognises organisations in Asia Pacific that demonstrate excellence, innovation and the impact to the business of a program involving the use of analytics, business intelligence (BI) or performance management initiatives. Nominations will be accepted from any relevant end-user organisation and will close on 21 January 2011. Technology vendors and service providers are not eligible for the award, but are encouraged to nominate their customers. “Business intelligence products have reached a stage of maturity, but it’s what organisations can do with them to improve their decision making and the impact they can have on a company’s business that’s important. That is where the real action is,” said Ian Bertram, managing vice president and business intelligence research team manager for Gartner. “It’s the combination of people, process, performance metrics and software that leads to real innovation. BI will remain one of the fastest growing software markets despite the recent economic downturn. When competitiveness depends on a great combination of strategy and execution, organisations continue to turn to BI as a tool for smarter, more agile and efficient business.” Gartner forecasts the Asia Pacific BI platform software market to grow to almost US$558 million in revenue in 2010, up 17 percent over 2009, and to reach nearly US$819 million in 2014 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.4 percent. The top three finalists in the Business Intelligence Excellence Award will each present their case studies during Gartner’s Business Intelligence & Information Management Summit in Sydney on 22 February 2011. Summit attendees will vote to select the winner from these finalists. The winner will receive industry visibility as a leader for best practices in business intelligence, as well as a winner’s trophy and two passes to the 2012 Gartner Business Intelligence & Information Management Summit. Previous finalists in Asia Pacific include TetraPak, Amcor and ICICI Bank India.
