Peruvian government agency selects Teradata Analytic Database environment

Agency integrates data to accelerate compliance and tax revenue processes

LIMA, Peru — Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the analytic data solutions company, announced today that the National Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT, in Spanish) has selected and deployed the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance to integrate and centralize detailed data. The most important agency of the Peruvian State in terms of technology investment, SUNAT faced the challenge of managing and analyzing large data volumes in order to comply with customs requirements and tax collection processes for Peru’s evolving economy.

SUNAT’s technology objectives reported online included developing integrated systems, tightening control over compliance and modernizing processes. This required updating the technology infrastructure for improved information management to better support the growing complexity of taxation processes – and provide greater transparency to tax administration processes and decisions.

Based on an initial test environment and proof-of-concept program, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance proved its power to rapidly manage and analyze large, complex data volumes; queries which once required half an hour to process now run in a few minutes, optimizing large data streams at a time-saving pace. The accelerated performance translates to productivity benefits and economic value for SUNAT.

SUNAT’s new Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance is the latest database platform designed to meet demanding requirements. It is a fully integrated system optimized for high-speed, deep-dive analysis.

“The Data Warehouse Appliance is a proven platform, easy to use and green in power performance for a wide variety of demanding business analytic tasks,” said Matías Gil, Country Manager of Teradata Perú and Chile. “In a short time, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance business has grown rapidly, with hundreds of customers worldwide using the appliance for many types of extreme data analysis. The ease of deployment by clients and their confidence in Teradata capabilities and reliability has put Teradata in a leading position in the Peruvian and Latin American Market.”

To manage enormous volumes of detailed information, the new Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance ensures that data is automatically compressed as it is loaded, and decompressed as needed. With Teradata Database 14, the analytic appliance will also leverage Teradata Columnar, which will deliver more advanced levels of performance and compression. The appliance also has powerful scalability for growing data volumes as well as “in-database” analytic capabilities to accelerate query responses -- in minutes rather than hours or days.

Teradata is the best at consolidating multiple data marts and applications on a single platform like the data warehouse appliance, simplifying the information infrastructure and reducing operating costs. It is also a well-architected solution -- all processors, disk storage and network utilities are pre-packaged in a base cabinet and delivered ready to operate, enabling rapid deployment and business value for SUNAT.

"Teradata is the first company to efficiently implement advanced compression and automate the entire process while accelerating the marketing and IT performance of the business. This unprecedented development makes Teradata´s solution easier to use, which is important for a governmental entity as SUNAT," said Gil.

Teradata provides a built-in base of government agency knowledge, government consulting services, global support services and world-leading hardware technology.
