State-of-the-art resort amenity locator system deployed at Steamboat Ski Area

Steamboat Becomes First Ski Area in the World to Provide Cutting-Edge System

LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., WOBURN, Mass. and STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo., Nov. 11, 2004 -- The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation announced an agreement with SafeTzone Technologies Corporation of Laguna Hills, Calif., and ScooterBug, Inc. of Woburn, MA, to provide its state-of-the-art resort amenity location system throughout the Steamboat Ski Area this winter. Steamboat becomes the first ski area in the world to provide this service and convenience to guests.

Steamboat MountainWatch -- Steamboat's Resort Amenity Locator allows guests with a simple swipe of the wrist band locator to better locate all members in their group on the mountain; amenities & recommended routes; navigate ski trails, lifts, maps & more; receive information & notification on Steamboat MountainWatch specials, lift status & weather; and communicate with others in their group via kiosk messaging. The Steamboat MountainWatch network covers a three square mile area made up of 56 location zones placed across the resort including the base area, on all lifts, ski patrol locations, ski school areas, Kids' Vacation Center and all mountain restaurants.

"The SafeTzone system is the premier technology of its kind in the country and we are proud to be making it available to our guests through the Steamboat MountainWatch Network," said Jim Schneider, vice president-skier services. "For anyone that turned right instead of left, got off to a late start, lingered on a powder day for friends or finished a lesson, Steamboat MountainWatch, in addition to its other features, now allows guests to better locate their group and join them to enjoy the slopes together."

The Steamboat MountainWatch system utilizes a watch-like, waterproof RF Locator device that communicates a person's location to RF readers. As individuals move through the resort, the locater communicates, via radio signal, the location and unique group information to the nearest antenna. The antenna then communicates via wireless network with the central computers to update the location of each member of that unique group. The central computer instantly relays the new data to the LocationStations or Kiosk. Kiosks will be located at 6 locations throughout the resort including Thunderhead, Rendezvous Saddle, Four Points Hut, Kid's Vacation Center, Gondola Square and Ticket offices. For opening day, the resort's Ski School and the Kids' Vacation Center will be utilizing the Steamboat MountainWatch system, and will then be available to the skiing/riding public shortly after the initial launch.

When a Steamboat MountainWatch user approaches the touch screen kiosks and scans their Locator, the passive RF tag automatically identifies them, linking them to information on the whereabouts of their group members. For security and privacy issues, guests can only locate members of their own unique group.

"Steamboat is one of the premier resorts in North America and a perfect partner to unveil the SafeTzone Amenity Location System to winter enthusiasts," said Timothy W. Giraldin, CEO of SafeTzone Technologies Corporation. "We offer the most flexible and advanced products of their kind in the market today and collaborating with travel partners such as Steamboat is an additional vehicle of translating these technological advances into the American mainstream."

In addition, Steamboat MountainWatch will be incorporated into Steamboat's Childcare and Ski & Snowboard programs, which will assign a locator bracelet to every child in the resort's program. For parents of children in ski school or childcare, the Steamboat MountainWatch locator will allow them the confidence to enjoy their day on the hill and the peace of mind to know they can locate, if they want, their child's position on the mountain through daily rental of a Steamboat Mountain Watch tag. The system will also utilize active readers at the entrance/exits to resort children facilities.

"Steamboat continues to be a leader in the industry for innovations that benefit families," said Andy Wirth, VP-sales & marketing. "With programs such as Kids Fly Free, Kids Ski Free, Kids Rent Free firmly established, Steamboat MountainWatch now offers families an entirely new technology providing guest amenity services all with the goal of achieving the best winter vacation together."
