Washington Redskins benefiting from SAPĀ® Scouting to manage team roster and performance

BOSTON, Feb. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP NEWSBYTE -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that the Washington Redskins football team started using the SAP® Scouting solution during the 2013 NFL season to manage team roster and performance as well as to assess the current draft class. The announcement was made at the annual MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, being held February 28 - March 1 in Boston.

SAP Scouting was co-designed with the San Francisco 49ers in preparation for their 2013 NFL Draft to help their executives and scouts identify and acquire talent, compare draftees in real time and ultimately put the best product on the field. Powered by the SAP HANA® platform, the solution captures data and does analytics for both college and professional scouting.

"SAP Scouting provides both a comprehensive profile of a prospect, player or team as well as breakthrough analytics capabilities to assess their true and projected value at a level that was previously unavailable to us," said Eric Schaeffer, vice president of Football Administration, Washington Redskins. "We have an exciting relationship with SAP to advance the system that pushes the boundaries yet takes into consideration our approach and user needs."

SAP Scouting provides powerful search and analytics in a simple way so that all users — from executives to coaches to scouts — can personally assess and compare players to get new insights without dependence on complex spreadsheets or personnel bottlenecks. The solution enables all of a team's college and professional scouting activities and generates key insights along the way.

SAP solutions continue to support sports franchises with exciting new tools to help them engage fans and players to improve on-field performance. This year, the SAP Scouting solution won the prestigious '2014 People's Choice Award' at the Interaction Design Association (IxDA).

"The award is a validation of our design approach to democratize the use of analytics and to enable users to leverage the capabilities in a very simple and intuitive way," said Sami Muneer, vice president of Product Management, SAP, who has worked closely with the SF 49ers and Washington Redskins in developing the system.
