In a June 22, 2004 report titled The ETL Tool Market Is Back And Growing, Forrester states that Informatica captured the leadership position once again in 2003 with 23 percent of the market, and forecasts healthy growth ahead for the Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) industry.

The market for data integration is healthy and growing, wrote Philip Russom, principal analyst at Forrester Research, Inc. He added that users alarmed by the dip in ETL spending in 2002 should be heartened by its recovery in 2003 and an imminent $1 billion milestone coming in 2005. He also notes that ETL is still a viable form of data integration with many years of service to the IT community ahead of it.

The report notes that data integration and data warehousing are increasingly mission critical. In addition, it finds that the growing use of data warehouses is the strongest driver for increased ETL usage. Forrester adds that twenty percent of ETL tool usage is for non-warehousing projects, such as database consolidation, migration, and synchronization. The report also cites customer data integration, US government agency projects, regulatory compliance and the upcoming RFID deluge as contributing to the increase of ETL usage.
