Information on multiple all-hazards emergency events was shared in real-time among multiple public safety and government organizations by routing messages to the right emergency response agencies using COMCARE's Emergency Provider Access Directory (EPAD). Agencies in over 30 states throughout the country were represented in the demonstration. Roaming Messenger, a COMCARE Alliance member, presented its mobile messaging technology which enables secure and interactive communication between public safety agencies as well as private enterprises. The COMCARE demonstration focused on interoperable emergency data messaging, using national emergency message and data standards, commercial information technologies and networks, and a shared, electronic directory of agencies called the EPAD. This directory gives authorized agencies the ability to register to receive and distribute emergency messages based on geography, incident or agency type, for all types of emergency events. The goal is to allow emergency messaging between all entities involved in emergency response, using the communications and information systems agencies use on a daily basis, including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, web-based emergency management tools, GIS applications and others. Richard Taylor, ENP, ComCARE Chair and Executive Director of the North Carolina Wireless 9-1-1 Board, said, "The organizations and companies that participated in the demonstration have shown their leadership by using innovative methods for dealing with the challenges posed by data sharing." In his remarks he noted that "state agencies from Maine to Hawaii participated in the demonstration" and he commended "those who are helping to shape a solution that can be deployed at all levels of government." Dr. Jack Potter, Vice Chair of ComCARE and Director of Emergency Medicine at Valley Health System, said, "End-to-end data interoperability within the emergency response community is an extensive and critical goal. When fully deployed, it has the potential to save thousands of lives each year, substantially reduce the severity and length of injuries, assist the emergency and related professions in their daily activities, and enhance homeland security." "This demonstration provided us an excellent venue to clearly illustrate how Roaming Messenger empowers seamless interoperability between different organizations and provides powerful information sharing options to those involved in emergency response," said Jon Lei, Roaming Messenger CEO. "We highlighted how Roaming Messenger goes beyond simply sending flat text messages by showing how we elegantly move interactive messages with rich content such as GIS data and plume models of hazardous materials across the wired and wireless worlds. The public safety and first responder markets are large markets, and we intend to be a major player in this space."
