Oracle(R) Database 10g release 2 with Oracle Real Application Clusters on Linux sets new TPC-H 300 gigabyte benchmark record

Dual Benchmark Results Demonstrate Oracle Database 10g Release 2's Leading Value and Performance

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., July 18, 2005 -- Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced two record-setting TPC-H 300 gigabyte data warehousing benchmarks that hallmarked Oracle(R) Database 10g Release 2's performance power and leadership among enterprise-class databases. Available since July 11, 2005, Oracle Database 10g Release 2 is already setting industry standards by elevating the price performance bar in the 300 gigabyte category and showcasing a 27 percent performance improvement from Oracle Database 10g Release 1.

Running on a two-node Dell PowerEdge 6800 Cluster with four Intel(R) Xeon 3.33 GHz processors and eight megabyte L3 Cache (EM64T), Oracle Database 10g Release 2 with Oracle Real Application Clusters on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3 achieved a world record price-performance ratio of $22/QphH@300GB at a performance of 11,742.8/QphH@300GB. In a second benchmark, Oracle Database 10g Release 2 with Oracle Real Application Clusters on a two-node Dell PowerEdge 6600 Cluster with four Intel(R) Xeon 3.0 GHz processors on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3 demonstrated a 27 percent performance improvement from Oracle Database 10g's first release. This benchmark reached 8,604 QphH@300GB at $30/QphH@300GB, compared to Oracle Database 10g Release 1's result of 6,795 QphH@300GB.

"Oracle is proud of, and confident about, Oracle Database 10g Release 2, and these benchmark results validate our efforts in advancing its performance and value," said Richard Sarwal, vice president of Server Performance, Oracle. "Customers can be sure that they are receiving a world-class product that continues to lead the field in data warehousing."

This benchmark adds to the extensive list of Oracle Database 10g performance world records, including world record TPC-H benchmarks in the larger scale factor categories -- three and 10 terabytes. With Oracle Database 10g, Oracle continues to provide customers with industry-leading capabilities that support the most demanding data warehousing and transaction processing requirements. As the leading database for production data warehousing, Oracle Database 10g provides a single, integrated database engine for scalable and high performing data warehousing implementations.

About Oracle Database 10g

Oracle Database 10g is designed to be effectively deployed on everything from small blade servers to the biggest SMP servers and clusters of all sizes. It features automated management capabilities for easy, cost-effective operation. Oracle Database 10g's unique ability to manage data from traditional business information to XML documents and spatial/location information makes it the ideal choice to power online transaction processing, decision support and content management applications.

About TPC-H

TPC-H is a decision support benchmark consisting of a suite of business oriented ad-hoc queries and concurrent data modifications. The performance metric is called the TPC-H Composite Query-per-Hour Performance Metric (QphH@Size) and reflects multiple aspects of the capability of the system to process queries.
