Guangdong Mobile Deploys Teradata® Data Warehouse to Strengthen Enterprise Operational Analysis System

BEIJING, CHINA, 9/7/2005 -– Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), announced today that Guangdong Mobile Communications Corporation (GMCC) has selected Teradata® data warehousing to strengthen its enterprise-wide operational analysis system. GMCC will set up a Guangdong provincial active service and marketing analytical system based on the Teradata data warehouse platform and Teradata Warehouse Miner. The solution will provide detailed customer information enabling GMCC to understand customer behavior and preference, get precise alerts on customer churn, introduce new services for customer retention and cross-selling and plan and rehearse marketing initiatives.

A subsidiary of China Mobile Communications Corporation, GMCC is the largest provincial communications company in China and the largest carrier in Guangdong province. Its province-wide network served 40.8 million subscribers at the end of 2004. The Active Service and Marketing Analytical System will discover business opportunities from the analyses, such as customer segmentation, competition, customer services and value-added services, and also identify target customers.

Through the integration of the entire marketing and promotion process, the system will support an automated marketing mechanism including creative, design, planning, implementation and performance analysis. With Teradata data warehousing, GMCC will be able to provide the right service to the right customers at the right time through the right channel.

The Active Service and Marketing Analytical System will support management, marketing, the data center and the service center of GMCC and its 22 local branch offices. It will also support each individual branch based on its own data and business needs, which will help local branches to identify their own business opportunities.

"In recent years, GMCC has undergone rapid growth with more subscribers and diversified service demand. We need a comprehensive active service and operational analysis system to strengthen our competitiveness and improve our management processes," according to a key project official of GMCC.

"After several rounds of bidding, testing and evaluation, we selected Teradata enterprise data warehousing and its advanced data mining technology to build the system. We believe it will help us to mine really valuable information from our enormous volume of data, and set up a single and scalable platform that meets our business needs. The system not only performs quantitative analysis, but more importantly, it will strengthen our business management, discover business opportunities and perform one-to-one marketing, thereby improving our marketing performance," the executive added.

The first phase of implementation is expected to complete in November 2005, at which point the Teradata data warehouse and data mining tools will be deployed. This phase will include the building of data mining analytical models such as churn alert, cross-selling and marketing campaign drills. The project also includes the design and planning of an analytical platform and data extract, load and transfer. Teradata will also help GMCC to integrate the business and marketing processes. The completion of phase one will provide a foundation on which related applications can be deployed in the future.
