from DSSResources.comOracle and HP set new world record one terabyte TPC-H benchmark resultREDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Aug. 8, 2005 -- Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) announced today a new TPC-H one terabyte (TB) data warehousing benchmark world record for Oracle(R) Database 10g Release 2 on an HP Integrity Superdome server, outperforming IBM DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 results. With this new result, Oracle and HP now hold the world records for large-scale data warehousing performance in the TPC-H one and three TB categories. In addition, Oracle and HP hold the world record for the fastest non-clustered result in the TPC-H 10 TB category. Running on a single HP Integrity Superdome server with 64-bit Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 1.6 GHz processors with 9MB cache running the HP-UX 11i operating environment, Oracle Database 10g Release 2 achieved world record performance of 68,100.06 QphH@1000GB with a price-performance ratio of $59/QphH@1000GB. Using the same number of processors, this new record overtakes IBM DB2's best TPC-H one terabyte benchmark running on IBM's eServer xSeries 346 by 27 percent. "This latest achievement puts a winning touch on the Oracle and HP combination," said Richard Sarwal, vice president, Server Performance, Oracle. "Oracle continuously demonstrates performance innovation and reliability. Customers can count on world-class database performance when they choose Oracle." "HP is committed to delivering outstanding performance and value to our customers, as demonstrated by the world-record results we consistently achieve," said Don Jenkins, vice president of marketing, Business Critical Servers, HP. "HP Integrity servers are designed for managing the most demanding workloads, especially for mission-critical data warehousing needs in the financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, and public sector industries." As the leading database for production data warehousing, Oracle Database 10g provides a single, integrated database engine for scalable and high performing data warehousing implementations. This new record-breaking benchmark illustrates why customers choose Oracle and HP Integrity servers to run very large databases. About Oracle Database 10g Oracle Database 10g is designed to be effectively deployed on everything from small blade servers to the biggest SMP servers and clusters of all sizes. It features automated management capabilities for easy, cost-effective operation. Oracle Database 10g's unique ability to manage all data from traditional business information to XML documents and spatial/location information makes it the ideal choice to power online transaction processing, decision support and content management applications. About TPC-H TPC-H is a decision support benchmark consisting of a suite of business oriented ad-hoc queries and concurrent data modifications. The performance metric is called the TPC-H Composite Query-per-Hour Performance Metric (QphH@Size) and reflects multiple aspects of the capability of the system to process queries.
