NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 30, 2006 -- Information Builders, the enterprise business intelligence (BI) standard of choice for organizations around the world, today announced that Buckman Laboratories - a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals with annual sales of $429 million - has selected WebFOCUS as its corporate standard for business intelligence and enterprise reporting. Buckman Labs chose WebFOCUS as its corporate standard because it meets the needs of a broad base of users at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels. The company also purchased iWay DataMigrator from Information Builders' sister company, iWay Software.

Currently, more than 1,000 Buckman employees -- from senior managers to sales associates -- use WebFOCUS to generate sales analysis reports. "So far, we've been focusing on the strategic level with our sales reporting system," Anderson noted. "We will be using WebFOCUS at the operational level in the future to create inventory reports, bills of lading, and customized invoices from our Baan ERP system."

Until recently, most of Buckman's reports were developed with another BI toolset. Unfortunately, as the user base grew, this BI environment became unstable. After reviewing alternatives from leading BI vendors, Buckman purchased WebFOCUS as its new corporate standard for enterprise reporting. "WebFOCUS was highly regarded by Gartner, and Information Builders appeared to be a solid company that would be around for the long term," Anderson noted.

Buckman Labs enlisted Information Builders' Consulting to help the company establish a stable reporting system. Within 40 days, the development team converted 40 existing reports to WebFOCUS, reusing many of Buckman's existing SQL procedures. "The consulting organization is one of Information Builders' strong points -- they worked hard to help us create a system that does what we need it to do," Anderson said.

Today, Buckman Labs uses WebFOCUS parameterized reports to sort, summarize, and filter data based on user-specified selection criteria. This has allowed the manufacturing company to significantly reduce its total number of reports. In some instances, one WebFOCUS report can replace as many as 20 existing reports. In the future, Buckman Labs plans to use iWay DataMigrator to simplify data extract, transformation, and load procedures related to its operational data store.

Anderson said WebFOCUS will gradually make it easier to share and reuse reports among regions. For example, sales reps in South Africa could use reports created in Brazil with little or no modification. "The more our organization concentrates on learning and using one tool, the more valuable and extensive our experience will become," he said. "WebFOCUS is our first choice for creating new reports and business intelligence applications going forward."
