from DSSResources.comIntergraph awards University of Calgary $2.6 Million education grantHUNTSVILLE, Ala., August 17, 2004 - Intergraph The Intergraph Education Grant will support the University's goals to arm its students with innovative ways to solve geographic information systems (GIS) problems as well as provide career skills. The Computer Science Department will use Intergraph technology in both undergraduate and graduate courses to introduce students to spatial databases. In the course "Introduction to Spatial Databases," students will use Oracle(R) Spatial and Oracle Workspace Manager and learn how spatial databases can be used to perform advanced spatial updates and analysis within GIS. Intergraph solutions will be used to show how to access and update spatial databases and how to manage topological information. Dr. Francois Anton, a visiting professor, stated, "Intergraph has been a pioneer in the commercial GIS market on several fronts since their introduction of the first object-oriented GIS. We are excited to use their groundbreaking solutions to introduce our students to spatial technology." In addition to supporting the Computer Science Department, Intergraph also provided an Intergraph Education Grant to the University's Department of Geomatics.
