SAS joins Teradata University Network

SAS® business intelligence and analytics curriculum will be available to thousands of professors, students

PHOENIX, AZ, Dec. 15, 2009 -- College professors and students worldwide will soon incorporate SAS pedagogy, customer cases and hands-on experience into instruction at no cost through a partnership between SAS, the leader in business analytics, and Teradata University Network (TUN). The partnership reflects a shared commitment to education and responds to growing market need for graduates with business intelligence, analytics software and consulting expertise.

TUN, a Web-based portal for faculty and students, offers resources in data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), decision support, database and analytics. Business analytics software from SAS is used across industries to address business issues such as performance, risk and financial management, fraud prevention and customer intelligence.

“Through the partnership, our member faculty will be able to teach students the essential methodologies, tools and techniques to help employers meet today’s complex challenges,” said Teradata Chief Development Officer Scott Gnau. “It was clear to us that no BI or analytics curriculum could be complete without SAS instruction.”

Students will learn various strategies to analyze large amounts of data to glean new insights and make predictions. The curriculum is provided through the SAS Global Academic Program, which supports professors, students, researchers and education leaders in using SAS software in teaching, learning and research.

“Teradata University Network is leading the way in bringing industry and academia together, listening carefully to higher education faculty and business leaders,” said Jerry Oglesby, SAS Director, Global Academic Programs and Global Certification. “We are committed to working with TUN to help prepare graduates to tackle the most complex business issues.”

Professors registered with TUN can begin incorporating SAS curricula in fall 2010, but will be able to preview SAS offerings in the spring for planning purposes.

The partnership announcement was made today at the first-of-its-kind Business Intelligence Congress in Phoenix. Teradata University Network created the BI Congress with the goals of establishing a top-ten list of joint industry and academic priorities in business intelligence and honing strategies for grooming the next generation of students to meet future needs of the industry. Oglesby will be part of a “Teaching BI” panel along with representatives of Teradata and three major universities.
