"The new system will allow our company to track the status of the hundreds of jobs we perform daily, providing better communication between executives, employees and the public," said Geoff Coultas, Manager Network Facilities, ETSA Utilities. "Besides streamlining the flow of information internally, we can keep more detailed network and performance statistics to meet our regulatory requirements." The outage management system (OMS) is an addition to the already in-progress upgrade of ETSA Utilities' AM/FM/GIS system from Intergraph's flagship FRAMME to its next-generation G/Technology, which will provide detailed intelligence about the network and will allow key performance indicators to be set and monitored. The new system will manage operational and customer data across the enterprise, helping ETSA Utilities to quickly and efficiently respond to planned outage work and unplanned outages and track work crews performing routine maintenance through planned outages. The InService OMS will make a significant impact on the management, efficient diagnosis and resolution of major outages. It will now be possible to identify individual feeders that each customer is connected to, which in turn enables ETSA Utilities to report on high-voltage and low-voltage outages down to the individual customer level. The OMS, also integrated with ETSA Utilities' SCADA, uses calls from the customer base as well as linkages to real-time data to diagnose and identify the cause of any major outage. The functionality includes real-time analysis of the electrical state of the distribution network, optimization of network use and improved management of fault situations. The system collects planned outage and maintenance tasks that have been generated by the ETSA Utilities SAP system and then schedules the work. Upon job completion, the system passes the relevant information back to the SAP. ETSA Utilities' implementation of G/Technology and InService creates a comprehensive Geospatial Resource Management environment, which facilitates integration and enables automated and efficient workflows for crucial daily activities. Intergraph is working closely with ClickSoftware on the implementation. The first phase of implementation is expected to be completed by the end of 2005.
